Gloria

Why is it that every time Gloria is in a rush, everyone around her wants to live their best lives at 2mph?

She only needed a couple of things at the grocery store to make her luxurious chocolate mousse. Making her way to the self checkout line, she sees a couple who looks like they have enough groceries for 2 weeks (what happened to a limit on the items?), a mom with her young child who is demanding to scan each item, and a dad with two young kids who looks this is first day of being a dad. He’s trying to calm one kid while keeping the other from grabbing the candy off the display. Gloria has the distinct idea that this may the first time this man has attempted this feat. She sighs and rolls her eyes.

Doesn’t anyone feel any sense of urgency? She hates it when she gets this way. Walking at a robust pace through the aisles to get bittersweet chocolate and heavy cream, she was already antsy when she approached the checkout.

Don’t these people realize that she NEEDS to have her chocolate mousse? That after this week, she deserves this chocolate mousse? That she deserves to have all 4 servings of this chocolate mousse???!?!?

COME ON PEOPLE!!!!!

Out of nowhere, she hears her name and sees her favorite store employee, Kay. Gloria attempts a genuine smile. Kay is just lovely and does not need to incur the wrath of her fury.

And then she says something that again makes her Gloria’s favorite person.

“Why don’t you come over to lane 3, and I’ll get you taken care of.”

Oh, blessed Kay. You are truly an angel.

And 3 minutes later, feeling slightly mollified, Gloria is walking out of the store and headed towards home to make her sacred chocolate mousse.

May we all encounter a Kay today.
